Real-case Oncology Center

Over the past three months, our students (level 2) participated in an intensive Studio 4 collaboration with Ball State University and CannonDesign (Chicago – Healthcare Sector), working on the design of a real-case Oncology Center in Indianapolis.
This was not a theoretical exercise, but a real-world, evidence-based healthcare design project, where students explored how architecture can enhance patient outcomes, improve staff efficiency, and create healing environments.
What makes this experience truly unique is that it:
– Involved one of the world’s leading global architecture firms (CannonDesign)
– Addressed a real project with specific programmatic needs and technical requirements
– Tackled the challenges of highly complex healthcare design
– Required real-time academic coordination across continents (Egypt and USA)
– Enabled a true interdisciplinary exchange between architecture, interior design, healthcare, and construction management
Throughout the studio, students:
– Conducted in-depth site and contextual analysis
– Studied global oncology center precedents
– Applied evidence-based design strategies
– Developed user journey & experience maps for patients, families, and medical staff
– Investigated how design impacts well-being, stress reduction, and healing processes
This collaboration reflects our vision of architecture driven by data, empathy, and interdisciplinary integration.
