Galala Rammed Earth Construction
The Rammed Earth Construction Workshop introduced participants to an eco-friendly building technique that merges sustainability with architectural performance. Rooted in traditional construction methods and adapted for contemporary use, the workshop explored how compacted earth can be utilized to create durable, low-impact structures.
Through a combination of theoretical insights and hands-on experience, participants engaged in the full process of rammed earth construction, including:
- Selection and preparation of the earth mixture
- Design considerations specific to rammed earth construction
- Formwork setup and construction techniques
- Compaction and curing processes
- Strategies for integrating rammed earth into contemporary architectural projects
The workshop also addressed key design approaches for incorporating this technique into modern architectural practice.
Conducted on campus in collaboration with the ESU Lab at Mansoura University and the BENAA Foundation, the workshop brought together students, architects, engineers, and researchers in a shared learning environment focused on sustainable construction and material innovation.
