Reimagining Port Said’s Historic Core

The theme of this international design competition—“Preserve, Connect, Transform”—reflects a holistic approach to urban regeneration. Participants are challenged to address the complex historical, social, and spatial conditions of Port Said through design
solutions that are respectful, inclusive, and forwardthinking. This theme invites proposals that do not simply renovate the old or build the new but rather orchestrate meaningful transitions between past, present, and future. Your design should be a catalyst preserving
identity, reconnecting fragmented urban and social fabric, and transforming challenges into opportunities.“Preserve, Connect, Transform” is not just a designbrief—it is an urban philosophy. It invites you toengage with the real-life complexity of Port Said as a
layered city of histories, tensions, dreams, and futures.Your project should tell a story—about a place, a people, and a pathway forward. This initiative encourages global collaboration, cultural heritage preservation, and innovative urban solutions while integrating smart technologies and AI applications.

Participants are encouraged to approach their urban regeneration proposals with strategic, contextual,
and visionary thinking. Proposals should strike a balance between architectural innovation and cultural
sensitivity while responding to real challenges identified in Port Said’s historic fabric.
Each project should integrate more than three of the following categories :
• Adaptive Reuse of Historical Buildings
• Micro-Interventions for Public Space
• Green Infrastructure and Climate Resilience
• Smart City Aplications
• Inclusive Space Design
• Rehabilitation of Historic Markets
