Kassel Revisited: AI and Urban Regeneration

The primary objective of this five-day Erasmus+ workshop, “Kassel Revisited: AI and Urban Regeneration,” is to foster a transnational exchange of expertise and innovative practices between Kassel and Galala Universities. The workshop aims to bridge the gap between emerging artificial intelligence technologies and urban regeneration strategies, thereby equipping participants with the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills necessary to address contemporary urban challenges. This initiative seeks to cultivate collaborative research, enhance academic curricula, and stimulate creative problem-solving approaches that integrate AI applications with sustainable urban development.

Added Value of the Mobility:
In the context of modernization and internationalization strategies of the involved institutions, this mobility offers substantial added value by aligning with both Kassel and Galala Universities’ goals to remain at the forefront of academic innovation and global engagement. The workshop enhances institutional capacities through shared expertise, fostering a robust network of scholars and practitioners committed to progressive urban planning and technological integration. By promoting cross-cultural dialogue and collaborative projects, the initiative not only enriches the educational experience but also strengthens bilateral partnerships, contributing to a dynamic, internationally recognized research community that supports sustainable urban transformation.

Content of the Teaching Programme:
The teaching programme is structured around a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical foundations with practical applications. Participants will engage in interactive lectures on AI-driven urban regeneration, case studies analyzing successful international models, and hands-on workshops that demonstrate the integration of spatial analytics and smart city technologies. Additionally, the programme includes group projects and panel discussions designed to stimulate critical debate and collaborative problem solving. These activities are supported by site visits and expert-led sessions that provide participants with both the academic rigor and practical insights necessary to innovate in the fields of AI and urban planning.

Expected Outcomes and Impact:
The expected outcomes of the workshop include an enhanced understanding of the nexus between artificial intelligence and urban regeneration, a strengthened capacity for interdisciplinary research, and the development of actionable strategies for sustainable urban development. Participants are anticipated to acquire new technical competencies, foster international networks, and contribute to curriculum enhancements at their home institutions. The workshop’s impact extends beyond individual learning; it is poised to influence institutional policies, encourage collaborative research initiatives, and experiment the adoption of AI in urban regeneration practices. Ultimately, the workshop aims to serve as a catalyst for transformative change, positioning both universities as leaders in innovative, technology-driven urban development.
