ARCH4HEALTH Global: Promoting Inclusive, Health-Centered Architectural Design – A Cross-Continental SDG Strategy in Education, Research, and University Management
ARCH4HEALTH Global is a four-year international academic and research initiative bringing together TU Dresden, Germany; Galala University, Egypt; and IIT Roorkee, India to advance inclusive and health-centered approaches to architectural education, research, and design.
The project builds on the existing ARCH4HEALTH module and expands it into a global academic track that brings together diverse cultural, geographical, and educational perspectives. At its core, the initiative explores how architecture and the built environment can better respond to the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social needs of diverse users, with particular emphasis on inclusion, accessibility, health, and wellbeing.
Through joint teaching, research activities, design studios, research labs, workshops, student presentations, study visits, and academic exchanges, students and faculty from the three partner universities collaborate on real-world design challenges. The curriculum is implemented across four semesters, exploring inclusive and health-centered design in different built-environment contexts, beginning with university campuses and extending to areas such as housing, schools, and recreational spaces.
The project also supports faculty and institutional capacity building through professional development, university management exchanges, and the development of Inclusive and Health-Centered Design Labs at partner universities. A multilingual, open-access digital platform will provide a space for sharing educational resources, research findings, teaching methodologies, and student work, while connecting the project with a wider international academic and professional community.
By fostering reciprocal knowledge exchange across Europe, Africa, and Asia, ARCH4HEALTH Global aims to contribute to a more inclusive, health-conscious, and globally connected approach to architectural education. Its long-term vision is to embed these methodologies within the curricula of partner universities and create a sustainable model that can be shared and adopted by institutions worldwide.
