It was a great honor for the Architecture Department at Galala University to host Architect Waleed Arafa, founder and principal of Dar Arafa Architecture, as part of The Essence of Architecture lecture series. The event offered students and faculty an inspiring opportunity to engage with one of Egypt’s leading architects and gain valuable insights into the essence of architectural thinking and practice. As part of his visit, Architect Waleed Arafa also joined as a jury member for the Studio 5 students’ design project reviews, which focused on Darb El-Labana, Old Cairo. His presence was especially significant, as his firm has previously worked on a real project on the same site, creating a meaningful bridge between academic design exploration and professional architectural practice. This unique engagement enriched the students’ learning experience and provided them with direct exposure to real-world design challenges and expert feedback.
